Toyota beats Ford and other competitors as the most American made car
Cars.com has recently named two Toyota vehicles as the top two in their Most American Made Car list. Claiming the top two seats are the Toyota Camry and the Toyota Sienna, respectively. This is the first time that Toyota has made it into the Cars.com Most American Made index in three years. It’s also the fifth time overall that the Camry has claimed the number one spot.
Vehicles with at least 75 percent American-made content are becoming fewer and further between. 75 percent domestic-made content and built within the US are the criteria to make the list. Any vehicle made with less than 75 percent American made parts or assembled outside of the US was disqualified. And for the first time in the index’s nine-year run, the list consists of fewer than 10 cars.

Jim Lenz, Toyota North America CEO, stated that these results show that Toyota is committed to investing in growth within the United States. The purpose of their focus on creating more of their vehicles in the US is to better satisfy and accommodate their
customers now and in the future.
The Camry has been America’s best-selling car for 13 consecutive years, and comes out of one of ten of the Toyota plants in the country, the Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. in Georgetown, KY. This plant also manufactures the Camry Hybrid, Avalon and Avalon Hybrid. It is the largest Toyota manufacturing facility in North America, employing more than 7,500 people. The plant will begin manufacturing the first Lexus vehicles to be built in America in the fall. The addition of Lexus vehicles will create 750 jobs.
