Should I Use Conventional or Synthetic Oil in My Toyota?

There is a lot of debate swirling about between the use of synthetic oil over conventional oil, and we are here to put the argument to rest.  We are going to answer all of your questions regarding synthetic oil versus conventional oil, and whether synthetic oil is alright for your Toyota vehicle.  No matter if you drive a rough and rugged Toyota Tundra, or the ultra-economical Toyota Prius we have the answers you are looking for when it comes to synthetic or conventional oil in your vehicle.

What is the Difference Between Synthetic or Conventional Oil?

Conventional oil is made by refining crude oil, which allows for natural impurities to be found in the product.  Synthetic oil on the other is created in a laboratory and still refines crude oil or in some cases natural gas, but the difference is in the refining process.  Both conventional and synthetic oils are heated and cooled to remove impurities, but the synthetic oil gets purified and reduced to its basic molecules to create a more uniform product with almost zero impurities.  The results are an oil that has been chemically engineered to possess better breakdown properties at high temperatures and a higher viscosity to reduce oil degradation.  The advantages of synthetic oil are easy to see, but the cost of synthetic oil over conventional oil is anywhere from twice to four times as much.  If you are diligent about getting your oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, maybe the added cost of upgrading to synthetic isn’t for you, but another key advantage synthetic oil has over conventional is its longevity.  Because of the viscosity and chemically engineered properties of synthetic oil you can go anywhere from 6,000 to 15,000 miles between oil changes.
